The Arun variety is a prominent, high-yielding red amaranth (Lal Saag / Cheera) developed by the College of Agriculture, Vellayani under Kerala Agricultural University (KAU).

·Appearance: Features striking maroon-red / purple-colored big leaves and long-lasting straight stems.

·Climate & Seasonality: Thrives in warm, tropical, and subtropical climates; suitable for cultivation across all seasons (though heavy, waterlogged rainy periods should be managed with raised beds)

·Nutritional Value: Rich in iron, calcium, vitamin C, dietary fiber, and essential amino acids like lysine.
