Chaulai /Amaranthus/ Ramdana is a Homegrown pseudo- cereal widely cultivated in higher Himalayan regions of Uttarakhand. Chaulai is naturally grown in rainfed conditions and is a staple diet of mountain inhabitants. A rich source of calcium and phosphorous, Chaulai is commonly made into ladoos, rotis and halwas in the hilly areas.

According to the study, chaulai helps in decreasing plasma, cholesterol levels, stimulating the immune system, exerting an antitumor activity, reducing blood glucose levels and improving conditions of hypertension and anemia. It also possesses anti-allergic and antioxidant powers.
