In this piece, I aim to explore the tension and kinship between two iconic figures of the American West: the Bison and the Wolf. Rather than a traditional wildlife study, I chose to paint the bison as an atmospheric force—rising out of the dust and storm clouds like a memory or a guardian, looming over the wolves as they navigate the sagebrush below.

The Creative Journey:

• The Palette: I leaned heavily into a "living" landscape. I used warm, sun-drenched ochres and burnt siennas to ground the wolves, contrasted against the turbulent, bruised blues of an approaching Montana storm.
• The Texture: Using acrylics allowed me to build quick, energetic layers. You can see the deliberate, feathered brushwork in the bison’s coat and the sharp, kinetic lines in the wolves' stride, capturing that split-second of movement.
• The Intent: This painting isn't just about a hunt; it’s about the unseen presence of the wilderness. I wanted the viewer to feel the weight of the bison’s gaze and the heat of the plains' dust.
