Lakshmi is seated on a lotus base holding two lotus flowers. Her front right hand is held up in the abhaya mudra while her left hand is in the varada mudra giving boons to her devotees. Lakshmi is the Hindu Goddess of wealth. Not particularly wealth in terms of money but in terms of abundance in spiritual terms of happiness and bliss. Being the wife of Lord Vishnu she takes several avatars to accompany Vishnu on his quest of upholding the dharma. One avatar she took was Bhoodevi, the mother earth-goddess. She seems to embody the Mother in this sculpture.
