Bidriware is a distinctive Indian metal handicraft from Bidar, Karnataka, renowned for its intricate silver inlay work on a blackened zinc alloy base. The unique technique involves casting an object from an alloy of zinc and copper, engraving designs onto its surface, inlaying thin silver wire or sheets into these grooves, and then oxidizing the surface with a special soil paste from Bidar Fort to achieve its characteristic matte black finish, making the silver patterns stand out brilliantly. Culturally, it represents a rich fusion of Persian and Indian artistry, often depicting flora, fauna, geometric patterns, and calligraphic motifs, serving both as decorative pieces and utilitarian objects, cherished for its elegance and the meticulous skill involved in its creation.
