Hunar SetuHunar Setu is a social initiative that connects skilled artisans and craftsmen with buyers, businesses, and communities that value their work. India’s artisans carry centuries of tradition, culture, and craftsmanship, but many of them struggle to access markets, technology, and fair opportunities. Hunar Setu was created to bridge this gap.https://www.hunarsetu.com/s/62ea2c599d1398fa16dbae0a/676523772eb3cf19c22b9674/hunarsetu1-logo-1--480x480.png

History (Wikipedia):

From where we get Chimta- Small history below:

Our knowledge about the Chimta is from Wikipedia. As per Wikipedia, we shared this small history to let our customers know about the Chimta history. Chimta (Punjabi: ਚਿਮਟਾ, Shahmukhī: چمٹا) literally means tongs. Over time, however, artisans have evolved it into a traditional instrument of South Asia by permanently adding small brass jingles. Consequently, musicians often use this instrument in popular Punjabi folk songs, Bhangra music, and the Sikh religious music known as Gurbani Kirtan. In addition, the craftsmen make the jingles of metal, and thus it produces a metallic sound and helps to keep up the beat of the song. For instance, in Bhangra music or at weddings, performers often combine it with Dhol and Bhangra dancers.

The chimta consists of a long, flat piece of steel or iron that artisans point at both ends and fold over in the middle. Additionally, a metal ring attaches near the fold, and craftsmen attach jingles or rings along the sides at regular intervals. Sometimes, musicians use seven pairs of jingles. Consequently, performers pluck the rings in a downward motion to produce tinkling sounds. Furthermore, artisans use chimtas with large rings at rural festivals, while they often use ones with smaller rings as an accompaniment to Bhangra dancers and singers of traditional Indian hymns.

The late Alam Lohar became famous for playing this instrument and introducing it to global audiences. Today, musicians like Kamal Heer and Arif Lohar continue this tradition by playing this instrument. Furthermore, also known as the "rusty tambourine sword," members of the experimental rock band His Name Is Alive have played the chimta on recent tours. This provides a basic history of the instrument.
