The listing is drafted in about eleven seconds, and usually goes live within two hours, once someone has checked it.
There are three ways to join and none of them needs an app. Send a photo to our WhatsApp number, meet a Sahayak on a field visit, or come across as a group through a cluster partner.
Signing up takes four details: name, phone, district and craft. No documents. We record consent as a voice note in the artisan’s own language instead of asking for a signature, and each permission is asked separately.
The camera walks through four angles, one at a time, reading each instruction aloud as well as showing it.
A quick check runs on the phone before anything is uploaded. If the photo is dark or blurred, or the piece is too small in the frame, it asks for another. Catching it here makes more difference than anything we could fix afterwards.
Two things happen at once. The photos tell us the craft, material, shape, colour, motif and rough size. The voice note tells us the price, the quantity, how long it took and where it comes from.
When the two don’t match, the artisan’s answer wins on anything they would know best. The description is then written in both languages, and nothing goes into it that isn’t backed by one of those details.
Every draft waits in a queue. The reviewer sees the photos, the draft details and the artisan’s voice note with a transcript, then approves it, edits it, or sends it back with a reason in plain language.
Once approved it goes live on our shop and on ONDC, and the artisan gets a WhatsApp message with the link and a voice note confirming it.
We’d rather spell this out than leave it to the word AI.
